Going Home
The Hope of what Home could be
How can we understand "home" in this mobile age? Amidst constant transition, where can our hearts belong? What does “home” mean in our portable world?
As this is one of the main themes in The Sixth Age, I have been wondering where or what is "home". In the past year this question found me in an interesting place as I was traveling about and seeing our nation’s capital in Washington D.C. It occurred to me how we had everything we needed for the trip, camera, phones, computer, the cool iPod touch, and few other odds and ends of technology that I have no clue what they do or how they function. I realized how easy it was to make a phone call "home" to talk to family or friends, to receive emails, and other such things. It was almost as if we never left "home". In thinking about The Sixth Age I realized how this could be a major disconnect for my audience as we all ‘know’ what home is, but we may not realize what the potential of home really can be as we progress into this so-called modern or mobile age.
In the book of Jeremiah, God calls us to build homes and pray for the peace and prosperity of the city in which he calls us to reside. Recently I started learning and studying the Hebrew language and have found a wealth of information I would not have experienced had I not gone down that path. Some of that information that has inspired me is the treasure of pictorial value that the ancient/biblical Hebrew language has. Also in further study, I realized that in a sense their language was a guide for the Hebrews, at the point in their history when they were gathering and leaving Egypt once and for all in of the book of Exodus...
